Are you planning a trip to Wales but feeling overwhelmed by the map? While many travelers try to "do" North Wales in a single day, they often spend more time in a minibus than actually discovering hidden castle ruins or breathing the mountain air of Eryri (Snowdonia).
To truly experience the magic of this region, the mist-covered peaks, the hidden legends, and the thrill of the outdoors, you need at least 48 hours.
Here is the perfect 2-day North Wales itinerary departing from Manchester, designed for those who want to see the famous sights while discovering the "hidden" Wales that big tour buses simply can’t reach. It also includes the option of an adrenaline fuelled activity on day two.
Day 1: Medieval ruins and Coastal Charm
Morning: Ewloe Castle - the castle history almost forgot
Leaving the bustle of Manchester behind, your first stop should be the hidden 13th Century Ewloe Castle. It takes just 1 hour to reach from the centre of Manchester so you won't be on the road for too long before your first stop. Legend has it that it was built by Llewlyn The Great, one of the most famous Welsh Princes.
The Highlight: Wander through the woods, along boardwalks and waterfalls to this mysterious castle, surrounded by the Wepre Forest. This is a real hidden gem, so there's a good chance you will have the place to yourself

Mid-Morning: The Jewel of the North - Conwy
Next, head to Conwy. This UNESCO World Heritage town is dominated by its massive fortress. Walk the nearly intact medieval town walls - the finest in Europe - offering spectacular views over the estuary and the smallest house in Great Britain.

Afternoon: Stretching the Legs (Ogwen or Aber Falls)
After lunch, go into the mountains for a choice of two iconic walks:
Option A: Lake Ogwen (Llyn Idwal). A dramatic, glacial bowl surrounded by the jagged peaks of the Glyderau. It’s a place of legends and world-class mountain scenery.
Option B: Aber Falls. A gentle but rewarding walk to one of Wales' most spectacular waterfalls, where the water plunges 120 feet over a rock face.

Evening: An Overnight Stay in Llandudno
Most tours head back to Manchester now, but yours is just beginning. Spend the evening in the elegant Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno. Take a sunset stroll along the longest pier in Wales or enjoy fresh seafood by the bay.
Day 2: The Heart of Eryri (Snowdonia) & The Scenic Route Home
Morning: Into the Mythic Land of Beddgelert
Start Day 2 by driving deep into the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia). First stop off at Dolbadarn Castle in the heart of the national park for amazing mountain scenery from the top. Next, drive over to Beddgelert, arguably the most beautiful village in Wales. Walk to the grave of the legendary hound Gelert and soak in the alpine atmosphere of this stone-built mountain hub.

Afternoon: Your Choice of Adventure in Llangollen or North-East Wales
This is where the 2-day tour truly stands apart. While standard tours are heading home, you have the afternoon for a choose-your-own-adventure in the stunning Dee Valley. Head to the town of Llangollen and either:
Option A: The Adrenaline Hit. Go white-water rafting or canoeing on the River Dee.
Option B: Drive around an hour along single track roads and through stunning hill scenery to Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall. It's the largest in England and Wales and you can hike to the top for stunning views

Then, head back to Manchester for early evening, with memories made that will last a lifetime.
