We're Launching a Dedicated Pride & Prejudice: BBC Series Tour

Since we started running Pride and Prejudice tours from Manchester, one thing has become obvious: a huge number of our guests aren't casual Austen fans. They're devotees of the BBC's 1995 series specifically - people who grew up on the six-part adaptation, who can tell you exactly which episode Mr Darcy emerges from the lake in, and who came on our combined tour hoping for more time with their Pemberley than a shared itinerary could really give them.

So from this November, we're launching a tour built entirely around the original series - and there are two reasons we finally made the call.

Lyme Park

Why now

The fans asked for it. Time and again, guests on our combined tour told us they'd have happily spent the whole day at the BBC series locations alone. When a big enough group of people are telling you the same thing, it's worth listening.

There was somewhere we weren't doing justice to. Sudbury Hall - the real house used for Pemberley's opulent interior scenes, including the Long Gallery Elizabeth wanders through unannounced - was never getting the time or attention it deserved squeezed into a shared, mixed-adaptation day. It's a genuinely remarkable 17th-century house with its own extraordinary story (more on that in a future post), and it deserves more than a rushed stop.

Put those two things together, and a dedicated BBC series tour was the obvious next step.

Where the tour goes

  • Lyme Park House & Gardens - the real exterior of Pemberley, including the grounds behind Mr Darcy's now-legendary lake scene. Entry is included in your tour price.

  • Buxton - a lunch stop in one of England's grandest Regency spa towns. No direct Austen connection here, just handsome Georgian architecture and a fitting pause on a Regency-era day out.

  • Ramshaw Rocks - the dramatic gritstone outcrop where Elizabeth and the Gardiners pause on their Derbyshire tour to admire "the untamed beauty of the peaks."

  • Sudbury Hall - Pemberley's interior scenes, filmed here rather than at Lyme Park, including the Long Gallery and the Great Staircase. Entry is not included, but tickets are available on the day for anyone who wants to go inside.

  • Longnor - the quiet village that played Lambton, where Elizabeth stays with her aunt and uncle, and where Mr Darcy visits her more than once. The real Lambton Inn exterior still stands on Chapel Street today.

A few questions we expect to get asked

Is this tour only about the BBC series?

Yes - every stop is specific to the BBC's 1995 adaptation starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.

Will you be doing a version for the 2005 film too?

We will be launching a 2005-only version very soon - keep an eye out for an announcement.

Is Sudbury Hall included in the price?

Lyme Park entry is included. Sudbury Hall entry is not included, but tickets can be bought on the day for anyone who'd like to explore inside.

How is this different from your previous Pride and Prejudice tour?

Our previous tour combined highlights from both the 1995 and 2005 adaptations into one day. This new tour is entirely dedicated to the BBC series, with more time at each location and a guide who can go deeper into the specific story of how it was made.
